Tiara and Headpieces Level 2 Course: Catherine Zehr Crown Princess Tiara
Course Description: Learn how to craft a Crown Princess Tiara from designer Catherine Zehr. This classically beautiful design is perfect for many ballet roles. Made in shades of pink and crystal AB, is the perfect design for many roles - Aurora’s 16th Birthday, and Sugar Plum Fairy, just to name two. Made in Crystal AB, this tiara can be used with many different costume colors, from white to ivory, pink, lavender, blue- it will look great with them all.Â
In this design, Catherine will introduce a couple new techniques: special support wires, painted to match the dancer’s hair color, and her new support headband. You will learn these special techniques, used to stabilize and strengthen the tiara without adding weight.
Catherine Zehr, costume designer for New York-based touring company, Ballets with a Twist, is a graduate of the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, with a degree in Fashion Design. Catherine spent ten years working in the fashion industry for several major companies before going into costume design. She brought with her excellent pattern-making skills, and an understanding of the importance of having costumes and headpieces support the dancer and choreography, not over-shadow them. With twenty years’ experience as a costume designer, Catherine’s designs are elegant, enhancing both the dancer and the project. Her favorite part of the creative process, by far, is creating the headpieces.
Prerequisites: You do not need to have taken a Level One class. The main difference between Level One and Level Two in tiara courses is that in Level One, you will use pre-strung Czech chain rhinestones and in Level Two you will learn to wire your own rose montees, giving you better options as far as mixing colors in future projects.
Course Length: 7-8 hours. See Your City’s Seminar Online Calendar to Plan Your Schedule.
Since Catherine does not teach other classes at TutuSchool, she is happy to adjust the schedule to fit your needs. Want to make a tiara, but cannot fit it into your chosen schedule of sewing? Just let us know and we will design tiara time around your schedule - early mornings, later in the evening, whatever works for your schedule.
